This workshop provides an opportunity to learn about the unique spiritual experiences and needs that affect transgender and gender variant young people and their communities. We will discuss matters pertaining to religious and spiritual trauma, rituals of transition, chosen names, visibility politics, wholeness, etc. We will present case studies for interactive engagement and opportunities to work in small groups about how to apply the principles and practices of spiritual care to diverse professional fields. Though the workshop is designed as an introduction to the field of interfaith spiritual care and pastoral counseling for secular care workers, such as social workers, educators, and clinicians, it is also suitable for faith leaders who wish to learn more about how to minister effectively to the trans* community.
